WELCOME TO AMBERGRIS CAYE
San Pedro, Ambergris Caye is the hottest tourist destination town in Belize. The island is a tropical paradise – coconut fronds swinging in gentle balmy sea breezes, turquoise seas and long stretches of white sandy beaches. In the past San Pedro was first and foremost a fishing village. The coconut industry became quite a lucrative business for many years also. In the past 30 years the fishing village has evolved into a tourist destination offering world class fishing, diving, birdwatching and day trip excursions to the mainland of Belize. With approximately 60 miles of coastline one can experience the crystal clear waters of the east coast with the close proximity of amazing dive and snorkel sites and amazing reef and deepsea fishing. The lagoon offers flats and bone fishing and the added excitement of spotting other wildlife such as manatee and salt water crocs.
The island’s main settlement is San Pedro Town, located close to the southern tip of the peninsula. With an estimated population of 18,000 full time residents, the town is experiencing a new development cycle that includes infrastructure improvements, new houses, condos, shops and schools.
